Fantasy author · The Breakaways: Volume I
“Four monster hunters. Questionable competence.”
Richie Billing is a fantasy writer from Liverpool, the author of Pariah’s Lament and A Fantasy Writers’ Handbook. His new book, The Breakaways: Volume I, is a dark fantasy comedy billed as “The Witcher meets Terry Pratchett.” Benzan has finally escaped the shadow of Marteus, the celebrated monster hunter who treated him like dirt, and assembles a crew of his own: Hylda, a scarred warrior with a vicious temper; Lukas, a trapper who releases more creatures than he catches; and Dudley, an overconfident crossbowman.
The Breakaways comes out on November 26, 2026. The Extended Edition, ordered from Richie’s own store, arrives a week earlier, on November 19, with the full audiobook narrated by Richie, four pieces of monster artwork by Thea Magerand and Benzan’s Guide to Monster Hunting.
He was the guest on episode 72, where Jared and Chris sat down with him to talk about the book and how it mixes comedy and horror.
